Writing Workshop #1
Dear student,
Let's get started. Please read the following text.
Dogs are special animals. They are pets. They are different. Many dogs are beautiful and good friends. Some are big and some are small. Some help people rescue people, or some are fun and make us very happy. I like them. Dogs are great!
What is the text about? Dogs are special.
The big idea of that text is called a TOPIC.
The main idea is a sentence that describes the TOPIC the best.
The other sentences that give extra information to the reader are called supporting details.
So a paragraph is a group of sentences that together make sense to you.
A good paragraph has a clear main idea and supporting details. Just like a good hamburger with many extras.
